How can you get a golden visa in the UAE?

The Golden Visa was introduced by the UAE govt. to attract talent and high-net-worth people from around the world to come and settle, invest, and do business in the UAE.

It allows expats to get a renewable residency visa for 5 to 10 years depending on which category they qualify for.

The golden visa allows you to live, work, study, and do business in the country without the need for a local sponsor.

Until now, an investor needed to have an Emirati local sponsor when setting up a business, the local sponsor would own 51 percent of the business legally even if he is not actively investing and the foreigner had only 49% of the share but with the Golden visa, this is not required anymore and one can own their business 100%.

When launched, Golden Visa was only offered to high-net-worth individuals and investors, and entrepreneurs. It was then extended to talented professionals, exceptional students, doctors, nurses, scientists, artists, and front-line workers.

In order to qualify, applicants need to demonstrate a track record of success in their field, possess a valid passport with at least six months validity, have proof of health insurance, and undergo security clearance or meet one of the below-listed criteria:

  1. Foreigners who have bought properties of over 2 million AED or have set up their business or made capital investments in UAE over and above 5 million.
  2. Businessmen who have made significant investments in commercial real estate or capital investments in business or have set up industries with sizeable investments.
  3. People who own a successful startup, hold patents or intellectual property or have a business idea that can contribute to UAE’s economy.
  4. Professionals and experts in certain fields such as science, medicine, research, or technical industries who have outstanding achievements or skills that can contribute to the UAE's development.
  5. High-achieving students studying in the UAE who have shown exceptional academic performance and are recognized by their educational institution or have received awards or accolades in their respective fields.
  6. Doctors, healthcare workers, specialists, researchers, and other healthcare professionals have attained significant achievements and can contribute to the advancement of healthcare services in the UAE.
  7. Individuals with exceptional contributions to scientific research and advancements in areas such as technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, or other scientific fields.
  8. Artists and Creatives: Accomplished artists, authors, designers, and other creative professionals who have made significant contributions to the cultural scene in the UAE.
  9. Athletes: Recognized athletes who have achieved notable accomplishments in international sporting events and can contribute to the development of sports in the UAE.
