What is Full Form or Full Name of ABS?

ABS stands for Anti-Lock Braking System

This is safety equipment used to prevent the locking and skidding of wheels of an automobile under harsh braking conditions such as brakes applied due to an emergency or under panic.

The system allows wheels to maintain contact with the road thereby providing safety to the driver.

When a driver faces an emergency and applies brakes harshly, ABS is designed to prevent wheels from locking and skidding on-road and allows the driver to guide the vehicle safely away from the accident to save his life.

ABS (Anti-Braking System)

ABS system (Anti-lock Braking System, also known as Antiblockiersystem in Germany) uses brake modulation to reduce braking power to regain control of rolling in the wheels and prevent slipping.

The system uses the method of pumping the brakes very quickly thereby allowing the driver to maintain the ability to steer away from any obstruction in a panic braking condition and continue interacting actively with the road surface as steered by the driver.

ABS helps maintain contact between wheel and road and prevents skidding and wheel locking. It improves control of the vehicle and reduces stopping distance on a dry or slippy surface.

It is an anti-skid braking system and is mainly used in aircraft and land vehicles such as motorcycles, cars, buses, and trucks.

ABS operates more effectively and at a much faster rate than most drivers can manage.

This automated system used principles of cadence and threshold braking, techniques that were earlier practiced mainly by skilled drivers before it started being used widely in all vehicles.

Since ABS started being introduced commonly in the production of vehicles, the system has evolved greatly and has become increasingly effective and sophisticated.

Modern versions of ABS in vehicles not only prevent the locking of the wheel but also change the front to rear brake balance.

This improvement, depending on its implementation and specific capabilities is to know variedly known by different names such as traction control system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control (ESC), or emergency brake assist.
