What are The Kashmir Files based on?

It is based on the true story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir Insurgency, (Wikipedia) a genocide that was sadly supported by the then-elected J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) government, the central government led by the Congress Party, and widely initiated by neighboring country Pakistan.

The movie is on video interviews of the first generation victims of the Genocide of the Kashmiri Pandit Community in 1990 (IMDB).

The movie is a flashback to the 1989-1990 period when some Islamic militants storm and banish Kashmiri Hindu Pandits from the valley using the slogan "Raliv Galiv ya Chaliv" ("convert to Islam, leave or die"). Pushkar Nath Pandit, a teacher, fears for the safety of his son Karan, who has been accused by the militants to be an Indian spy. Pushkar requests his friend Brahma Dutt, a civil servant, for Karan's protection. Brahma travels with Pushkar to Kashmir and witnesses the plight of and violence against Kashmiri Pandits. He takes up the issue with J&K's chief minister who suspends Brahma (Wikipedia).

Militant commander Farooq Malik Bitta, also a former student of Pushkar, breaches Pushkar Nath's house. Karan hides in a rice container but is found and shot by Bitta. Pushkar and his daughter-in-law Sharda plead for their lives. Bitta compels Sharda to eat rice soaked in Karan's blood in exchange for their lives. After Bitta and his gang leave the house, Pushkar takes Karan to the hospital and requests his doctor friend Mahesh Kumar to save Karan's life. However, the hospital gets taken over by militants, who forbid the hospital staff from treating non-Muslims. Subsequently, Karan succumbs to injuries from gunshots.

The movie, which had released in theatres on March 11, stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and others has such gruesome incidents which have been confirmed by people who survived these horror moments and people who do not want this truth to be exposed are criticizing it as fiction.

The Kashmir Files movie has been declared tax-free in many states like Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Goa, Haryana, and Uttarakhand.

In Delhi when a request was made to Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, he not only refused to make it tax-free but also made fun of the movie, called it fictional and fake, and accused the producers of the movie to cause chaos and disturbance of peace between Hindus and Muslims.

This in return hurt the sentiments of not only the affected Hindus who experienced the horror shown in the movie but all of the Hindu community as a whole.

Many politicians and anti-Indian supporters have tried violently to oppose the release of The Kashmir Files by attacking moviegoers and shutting down running shows in theatres attacking with stones and iron rods.

The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party or as popularly known as the BJP Party including Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has come wholeheartedly in support of the movie and for exposure of the horror, the poor Hindus of Kashmir had to undergo back in 1990 by giving tax exemptions which in turn has boosted the collections.

The Kashmir Files has taken the box office by storm.

Even with no megastars featured in the movie with just Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles and even with it being refused to be promoted by The Kapil Sharma show, widely known to have been blocked by its producer, actor Salman Khan, the movie has reached masses on word of mouth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, met the film’s director, Vivek Agnihotri, and its cast members. At BJP’s parliamentary party meeting, Modi said “films like The Kashmir Files need to be made so that people can know the truth".

Is The Kashmir Files a real story?

Wikipedia says The film presents a fictional storyline centered around an exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the disputed region of Kashmir. It depicts the early-1990 exodus to be a genocide, a notion that is widely considered inaccurate and associated with conspiracy theories.

But the truth is completely different, 500,000 Hindus were forced to leave in an exodus overnight by Kashmiri militants who were trained and infiltrated by the ISI services of neighboring Pakistan.

The film has been written after interviewing dislocated Hindus who still have been living displaced from their homeland for the past 30 years and have been awaiting justice.

The then ruling Congress and the Jammu and Kashmir governments failed to protect the rights of the Hindus who had to flee overnight leaving their houses, businesses, jewelry, belongings, and some even their daughters and wives to bear the torture of the militants who raped and butchered them.

There are people who survived to confirm what has been shown in the movie which can prove that it is not fictional.

Will the film be shown on OTT?

Yes, there are rumors that after its successful release in cinemas, the movie will be released on Zee5, a popular OTT in India, and will have a grand premiere on May 13, 2022.

This will give a chance to people who have not been able to see The Kashmir Files the countries they live in especially the Muslim countries to now get to see the truth which has been known to be hidden by the then ruling government in the center, The congress government.

In addition to this announcement, the writer, director, and producer
Mr. Vivek Agnihotri also announced his third directorial to be announced soon after two successful ventures, The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files and the third venture to be released when completed is The Delhi Files.
