Lata Mangeshkar, India's most loved playback singer, passes away at age of 92 on Sunday, Feb 6, 2022, at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Lata Ji, as she was fondly addressed with respect was admitted in early January this year for covid-19 and was also diagnosed with pneumonia. on January 28, she was taken off the ventilator as her condition improved but then later on February 5, the condition deteriorated again and she breathed her last.

Lata didi (elder sister) died due to a multi-organ failure after over 28 days of treatment after being admitted for covid-19 symptoms.

Lata Mangeshkar started her singing career when she was just 13 and recorded her first song in 1942 and has sung over 50,000 songs in over 20 languages in her career which spanned over 7 decades.

Lata Mangeshkar is the oldest of her siblings and is survived by Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Mumbai to pay his last respects to the legendary singer also lovingly known as Queen of Melody and Nightingale of India. 

State Funeral with Full Honors 

Lata Mangeshkar has been accorded a full state funeral. Two-day national mourning has been announced by the Government of India and flags on all government buildings across India will be at half-mast.
